Funeral services and burial will be held this evening in our backyard for our beloved African dwarf frog. He was our first pet, and the last sixteen months with him have been wonderful. Fingers crossed that his buddy doesn’t decide to go as well. We’ve had enough tears in our house for one day.

Here’s what I don’t get about writing a first draft of a novel. How do people know where to end the chapters?

Do you write the whole first draft, then go back and make chapters? Or do you chapter-it-up as you go along?

The reason I ask, is because I’ve had several writer-friends tell me that they’d be happy to critique one of my chapters. I just don’t think I could give them a chapter until I’ve written the entire book first. I started out numbering chapters, but quickly realized it was pointless. Because I plan on doing so much revising, nothing will be in the same place as it was before.

Right now, when I do come to a break, I write Chapter and center it on the page. Perhaps what I should write is

Maybe Chapter???

Enough pondering. Time to get back to writing.
