Talk Dirty to Me

A little over a week ago, my husband entered the pantry and didn’t come out for thirty minutes. He went to go look for something, couldn’t take the mess in there, so he started cleaning and sorting. It was wonderful.

From there, we went to Lowe’s to purchase several enormous cabinets for the garage. He spent a good portion of the day putting them together. Then he helped me up in the girls’ closets, which needed to be purged and organized so that they could find weather-appropriate clothes that actually still fit them for school.

Once the cabinets were finished. We cleaned out the garage.

On the first day of school, I cleaned and sorted the Mud Room, as well as the Coat Closet. I ordered a shoe rack online to help with the mess. I took all non-fitting shoes and placed them in a bag for donation.

Then, I did the medicine cabinet in the kitchen. I threw away all old medicines, as well as those whose contents had spilled everywhere. I bought small plastic bins — one for adult medicine, one for kids’ medicines, and one to hold everything else (bandaids, thermometers, etc.).

Then I bought small plastic bins to fit in the girls’ bathroom drawers to hold their toothbrushes, toothpaste, and hair barrettes.

Then I cleaned and sorted the “lunch drawer” which holds all the reusable school lunch crap. Then I cleaned out and sorted the “kids eating stuff” cabinet, and threw away all those freebie cups with straws that we collect from restaurants.

I’m manic, for sure.

I’m sleeping well and only have one child at home for half the day. I have the time and the energy. I’m giving myself only the smallest of areas to purge — one cabinet, one drawer, one small closet. I don’t feel overwhelmed and can figure out how to entertain the baby for a short period of time to clean them.

I’m not sure why I’m telling you all of this. I think I just feel guilty that I’m not really doing much writing. Perhaps I’m trying to prove to myself that I’ve been productive? I don’t know.

Pride from cleaning is very short-lived for me. I need to get back my pride from writing.

It’s a public display of affection over at skirt!

  1. I am inspired! My kids start their little school Sept 8th. Let us see what I can accomplish during the 3.5-4 hours those two days a week they are there. 🙂

  2. OH, I can feel the joy of having a (temporarily) clean and organized pantry and purging all that stuff — and I totally envy it! But hopefully in we’ll be able to get to that in the next few weeks, or at least before my parents go back home at the end of September.

  3. Oh, sure magpie. But I’ll likely steal away in the middle of the night with your built-in bookcases!
