Do the right thing

Did you vote? I hope you did.

I walked to the polling place earlier this afternoon and stood in line outside. It’s the most beautiful day today — upper 60s, sunny, and not a cloud in the sky. The sun is bright and hopeful. There is no place I’d rather be than Georgia in the fall.

On my walk home, the sun was behind me heating up the back of my neck. I pulled my sunglasses down from my forehead over my eyes. From the distance, I could hear the kids playing in our backyard.

And then it hit me.

I never, ever thought I’d see the day when I’d cast a ballot in a Presidential election for someone with skin the same color as my own.

I am in awe.

  1. I swear I am tearing up at the very idea of it. Last night I heard Stevie Wonder singing and thought to myself, he might get to play the inauguration. And did he ever think he’d play the inauguration of a black president? I was sure it would happen eventually but I honestly didn’t believe it would be in my lifetime. And it may not be yet. But even to be this close is more than I thought I’d ever see.

  2. I am SO proud of my country today. Regardless of the outcome, a black man and a woman were on the tickets. There is hope and I am excited that I have these examples for my children.

    God (or whoever) Bless America!
